Manually Installing Cygwin with X Server for use with GMV on Windows ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1) If you are installing Cygwin manually, please run setup.exe from inside the "cygwin" directory in the distribution. 2) Click the "Next" button to go to the "Choose A Download Source" page. 3) Select "Install from Local Directory" and click "Next". 4) It is recommended to use defaults for Root Directory and Install For "All Users", click "Next" to proceed. 5) Select the Local Package Directory, which will be the "cygwin" directory that is part of this distribution (it should be defaulted to the correct location). Then click "Next". 6) A "Setup Alert" may come up warning that this is a major Cygwin release. Click OK to continue. 7) Click the "View" button in the top right once to see packages easier for the next step. 8) Search for each of the below packages and then click once on "Skip" under the "New" column, in the row next to each package to select them for installation: xinit xorg-server X-start-menu-icons libXm4 9) Click "Next" to begin installation, a window asking for additional package dependencies will pop up, please accept all dependencies by clicking "Next". 10) Once installation complete, the final page will by shown. It is recommend to create the Desktop icon and Start Menu entries. Please check both boxes if they are not already. Click "Finish" to complete the installation. 11) To run the Cygwin-X Server for use with GMV, please select "Start -> All Programs -> Cygwin-X -> XWin Server". This only needs to be done once per login session. You can automate this by copying the shortcut into the "Start -> All Programs -> Startup" folder.
